The Chef

About the Chef

Julie Garren is a certified Natural Chef from Bauman College school of Holistic Nutrition and Culinary Arts. Her love for cooking and feeding people healthy meals has been growing for years but it really took off while cooking big meals for the families in the co-op where she lived in Berkeley, California. Her personal chef practice caters to anyone too busy to make healthy meals at home and those interested in making healthy choices for their bodies and the planet.

Julie’s knowledge in alternative ingredients makes her able to please the palates of those with major food allergies including gluten, wheat, nuts, dairy, and soy. Additionally, she partners with different holistic health practitioners and nutritionists to help their patients adhere to dietary restrictions and facilitate healthy choices during medical challenges. She is well-versed in cooking for both Weston A. Price and Paleo/Primal diets.

Prior to becoming a chef, Julie received a BS in Botany, MS in Ecology, and was certified as a Hatha Yoga instructor. Green Garlic Natural Cooking marries her loves of cooking with her commitment to environmental responsibility through choosing whole, local, seasonal, and organic as much as possible. It turns out that eating food that is good for your body is also good for the planet. Julie is a firm believer that nutrition does not equal bland, boring or flavorless and that nutrition is in no way defined by just calories.

Moderation is the key to nutrition and fun is to be had in the kitchen!
